LASIK Eye Surgery – Watertown, Syracuse, Liverpool, Upstate and Central New York

LASIK is a popular laser vision correction treatment designed to improve the vision of those with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. A laser is used to reshape the cornea, changing its focusing power to dramatically improve vision. LASIK eye surgery is an outpatient procedure offered to patients in the Upstate New York area who seek to reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses. Learn more about LASIK eye surgery and schedule a free initial consultation at our Liverpool or Watertown offices.

Are You a Candidate for LASIK?

The experienced ophthalmologists at Syracuse Ophthalmologic Consultants will assess your candidacy for LASIK eye surgery during your free initial consultation. The ideal candidate is an adult who has had a stable vision prescription for at least one year, no corneal scarring, has not had an eye infection or injury in the year prior to surgery, and is not pregnant or nursing. If you are not a candidate for LASIK, you may be a candidate for another vision correction procedure. Contact us to learn more.

LASIK Procedure

Prior to the LASIK eye surgery procedure, you will be required to stop wearing contact lenses. This will allow our ophthalmologists to accurately measure you eye and calculate the appropriate amount of corneal tissue that will be removed for optimal results. Starting the day before your treatment, you will also be asked to stop using lotions and make up.

The LASIK eye surgery takes less than 30 minutes at our Liverpool and Watertown offices. Once your eye has been numbed, a microkeratome blade will be used to create a flap in the cornea. Next, we will use an excimer laser to remove the appropriate amount of corneal tissue to reshape your eye, and improve your vision. After the corneal tissue has been removed, the flap is placed into its former position. You will be given a shield to wear during your recovery to ensure that you do not rub your eyes and you will be given after-care directions.
